Celeste Bruce established Soul Pilates (formerly Physicalmind) in South Melbourne in 2001, and has overseen the blossoming of the studio’s reputation as a centre of Pilates excellence. Celeste studied dance for many years both in Australia and the United States, and has travelled widely teaching body conditioning and anatomy and physiology for dancers, as well as delivering community lectures on osteoarthritis, scoliosis, osteoporosis and disease prevention from a Pilates perspective. With over a decade of experience as a qualified Pilates instructor, she is certified with the Australian Pilates Method Association (APMA) and Polestar Pilates, and has been on the board of the APMA as chairperson for the education committee. While specialising in dance and sports conditioning, Celeste’s continuing ambition is to educate and encourage all people to exercise more wisely, for the benefit of the mind, the body and the spirit.
Shae Brebner is an integral part of the Soul Pilates team, managing the studio and catering to the needs of a wide variety of clientele. Shae was introduced to the Pilates Method in early 2002 and furthered her education by completing the APMA Instructor Course at the Physicalmind Institute in 2005. Following many years of dance training and after the completion of a full-time dance course in 1999, Shae began teaching at several ballet and performing arts schools in and around Melbourne. Shae joined the Soul Pilates team early in 2006. Her consistent energy and infectious enthusiasm make her an exceptional and sought-after instructor.
Kirsten Beale's love of Pilates stems from the transforming power it’s had in her own life, both psychologically and physically. After practising for ten years, the tangible improvement in her well being led her to undertake studies with Pilates National Training in Melbourne. She successfully completed her Diploma of Professional Pilates in 2009 and became a Level 1 member of the Pilates Alliance Australasia. She feels very fortunate to share her Pilates knowledge with others and is particularly interested in women's health and conditioning for runners. Kirsten also holds a Bachelor of Business degree and grew up in South Africa, before moving to Melbourne in 2000.
Jasmine Burnett began Pilates as a young ballet student in Sydney during her four years of full-time study at the Australian Ballet School. When injuries put an end to her pursuit of dancing, her interest in body conditioning and exercise rehabilitation led her to study a Bachelor of Exercise Science and Human Movement at Victoria University, which she completed in 2010. To round out ten years of Pilates training, and continue to expand her expertise, Jasmine completed the APMA Level 2 Pilates Teacher Training. She enjoys focusing on her passion for exercise rehabilitation through Pilates and is particularly interested in dance-specific rehabilitation and conditioning.
Trudi Calder has a passion for all sports and has spent many years competing in beach volleyball, indoor volleyball and hockey, as well as enjoying mixed touch rugby, squash, tennis, waterskiing and snow boarding. After integrating Pilates into her lifestyle and achieving great physical success, she embarked on a career in the industry that changed her life. Trudi completed a diploma in professional Pilates through Polestar Pilates in 2010. She has a keen interest in training professional athletes and is currently working with elite swimmers who train at VicCentre, Australia’s leading swimming academy.
Sarah Cotchett’s passion for the body sees her combine Pilates instruction and myotherapy into her professional working life. In 2002, Sarah completed an Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy at RMIT and a Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction with Pilates International in 2008. Sarah holds professional memberships with both the Australian Pilates Method Association and the Institute of Registered Myotherapists of Australia. Sarah’s love for teaching has led to her completing a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment, which will enable her to facilitate training within the health industry. Sarah has special interests in spinal and pelvic dysfunction, and sports-specific exercise conditioning. Sarah is a very keen and committed track and field athlete, specialising in the 400-metre sprint on the track.
Ashlee Grunberg’s long interest and deep understanding of the Pilates method come from her background in dance and circus arts, which require correct stretching techniques to ensure perfect body balance. Ashlee qualified in Pilates instruction with the APMA and her extensive studies at NICA and Circus OZ strongly influence her teaching. Both circus schools have worked with some of the greatest circus companies in the world, including Circus Oz, Circus Royale, Cirque du Soleil, Great Moscow Circus, Legs on the Wall, Circa and the Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe, and Ashlee recently spent a year in Paris performing in circus arts. Ash’s natural ability to share her knowledge with others allows her to connect with people with grace and empathy and make her a much-valued member of the Soul Pilates team.
Rebecca Magazzu has a background in performing, teaching and choreographing dance. She graduated from the VCA in 2004 with a Bachelor of Dance, before training with the PhysicalMind Institute and qualifying as an APMA Pilates instructor in 2006. As well as conducting regular Pilates sessions, she teaches classical ballet, contemporary dance and jazz to various ages. Having worked at various Pilates studios and physiotherapy clinics, Rebecca brings her enthusiasm for working with different abilities and strengths to the Soul Pilates team. She loves to keep her clients interested and ensure they keep improving.
